Discovered at South Africa 's first real comedy club, Hysterix in Johannesburg , Martin has impressed audiences with his novel style and pertinent observational humour. He is South African to his fingertips and was the only performer to receive a standing ovation at the inaugural Smirnoff Mule Comedy Festival at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town during October 1997. Martin was invited by Joe Parker to be the support act on his "First Farewell Tour" of December/January 1997/98. Since then his reputation has grown significantly. He was chosen by M-Net to compére their "It's a Funny Country" special from the Karoofees in Oudtshoorn in April 1998 and has become hugely popular at the new Hysterix club in Hatfield, Pretoria . Martin was invited to appear in the Smirnoff Mule Comedy Festival in October 1998 in both Durban and Cape Town at the Playhouse and Baxter Theatres, respectively. His performance was described as "Novel, exciting . heading for Stardom" by the press in Cape Town . His show is delivered in both English and Afrikaans and covers just about all aspects of the South African lifestyle.
