 Operatic tenor, linguist, gospel singer, and art-collector. All these labels describe Manuel Escorcio, one of the most exciting and versatile singers ever produced in South Aftica . Manuel is a legend in his home country of South Africa . As the principal resident tenor of the Cape Town City Opera for 12 years, he has sung in over 40 productions ranging from Mozart's "The Magic Flute" to Donizetti's "The Barber of Seville." He has delighted audiences in all parts of the world with his magnificent singing. He has sung on 4 continents and his devotion to music has complemented his already refined and pleasant tenor voice. Born in Mozambique of Portuguese-French descent, this colorful stage, television, and radio personality is in constant demand in many parts of the world. He immigrated to South Africa as a teenager in 1966, where he attended high school at Helderberg College . He has recorded 30 CDs to date, six of which are gospel. Three recordings have gone Gold and one Platinum. He has won numerous awards including being named the Most Popular Singer in South Africa in 1986 and 1990. He sings in six languages (English, Portuguese, Dutch Afrikaans, Spanish, French, and Italian). He has a Master of Music degree from the University of Cape Town and served as a lecturer in vocal studies for the Faculty of Music at the University of Stellenbosch . He also holds a degree in Theology and a fellowship with the Royal Schools of London as well as Trinity College . Manuel now lives in Pretoria . |
