Bana Ba Thari is truly the oldest "African" String Quintet consisting of a cellist, three Violins and a Viola. The members are drawn from the "African Youth Ensemble", which was founded by Kolwane Mantu who leads Bana Ba Thari. They also perform in the National Youth Orchestra Bana Ba Thari plays classical music as well as Traditional African music and are renowned for their professionalism and exuberance. The Quintet have performed at some of the most prestigious events in the country and some of the more recent performances include CNN African Journalist of the Year Award, Launch of Telkom School Choir Championship, Soweto Caltex Nation Building Concert, Launch of 'Science and Technology 2010', Transnet's Boss of the year Award, Spoornet Chairman's Awards. Other clients include Siemens, Deloitte & Touché & Star Diamonds. They have backed artists such as Gloria Bosman and Ringo Madlingozi and were part of the making of Helmut Lotti's 'Out of Africa' video. |
