![]() Mahendra is the tv news anchor/newsreader for SABC TV News, and is a bulletin writer at the English Desk of SABC TV News. With a Bachelor of Arts degree (majors in English & Speech and Drama), Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Speech and Drama under his belt, he is currently completing a Master of Arts degree in Drama. Much of Mahendra's work experience has been in the areas of Television & Radio Broadcasting, Drama & Theatre, and Education and Training. His career began as News Reader and Bulletin Writer/Compiler for SABC Radio News in KwaZulu Natal from where he went on to be the Current Affairs Anchor on Lotus FM's "Newsbreak" programme. During his time as Station Manager at Radio ABH - a community radio station in Durban - Mahendra also took time to perform in and direct numerous theatre productions that have toured nationally. He has lectured at a variety of educational institutions. University of Durban-Westville , University of Natal , Vista University ( Soweto ), Rand College of Education, M L Sultan Technikon, and Cato Manor Technical College , and is the Author of a series of academic publications. He is the co-author (with Prof. Dennis Schauffer) and has published the first in a series of twenty profiles on Black African Dramatists in Southern Africa , the culmination of four years of research in the African sub-continent. Added to this impressive body of work, Mahendra has also Managed a University Research Project, "Black African Dramatists in Southern Africa", which involved extensive travel in the African sub-continent; written and presented papers at national and international conferences; taken the time to convene a museum exhibition and conferences; and managed a Youth development project, as the Regional Facilitator (KwaZulu-Natal) of the Telkom Social Upliftment Programme (TELTEK). No stranger to the corporate circuit, he has also facilitated training workshops and is often requested to act as Master of Ceremonies (MC) for numerous Corporate functions, as well as live local and international shows. When asked about is other interests, he lists movies (from Hollywood and Bollywood!), Formula 1 motor racing, Live Theatre and jazz concerts. |
