Breat Cancer Survivor One Thursday evening in early November 2003, Yavi, at the age of 28, discovered a lump in her right breast. She had a lot on her mind at the time and was more worried about her guests arriving for breakfast on the Saturday morning, to watch the Rugby World Cup Final. So Yavi chose to ignore the lump, not giving it a single thought until the Monday evening, when her husband was out playing a social game of soccer. "I sat alone and started to think the worst. I burst into tears and knew that I had to find a gynaecologist." On November 14, 2003, at 15h02, Yavi was diagnosed with breast cancer. Yavi has journeyed full circle and discovered her true spiritual self. The answer to her quest: 'Life lives in the moment.' She is a very spiritual person but professes to be non-specific when talking about her own religious orientation. As many as 1 in 31 South African women will get breast cancer during their lifetime. |
