Denis Beckett
Denis was born in London , and educated at King Edward Preparatory School in Johannesburg and also St Stithians College, after which he attained his BA and LLB at the University of Witwatersrand . At the start of his career he was a registrar to a judge of the Supreme Court and was admitted to the Bar in 1971.
 
From 1972 to 1979 he held editorial and management posts on The Star, Rand Daily Mail, World, Drum and The Voice and in 1979 he became owner, editor and bottle-washer of Frontline magazine. Denis has been a media commentator on SABC TV and host of `Face the Fax` on NNTV; has twice received the `SFW Award for Enterprising Journalism`; the Shell / JCC `Four Outstanding Young South Africans` citation and the Mondi Magazine Award.
 
As an author he has written 5 books, been a regular columnist for Beeld, The Sowetan, Sunday Times, City Press and many more. Denis is currently the Associate Editor of `The Star` Editor of the South African quarterly `Sidelines` and producer and presenter of Beckets Trek on SABC3 TV. Most recently he has hosted a weekly slot entitled `By invitation` on Radio 702.
