Graeme Codrington

 Graeme Codrington

Graeme is a sought after local and international speaker, best-selling author and generational expert, with a passion for helping companies choose their futures, get the best out of their "bright young things" and effectively plan for leadership succession.

Graeme studied a BComm at WITS, while doing Chartered Accountancy articles with KPMG. He majored in Accounts and Information Systems, and was involved at KPMG in automating their audit processes. He left KPMG in 1993 to join an entrepreneurial start-up company, which was revolutionising computer training at the start of the e-commerce era. At Ambassador Training, he was involved in high-end computer training (including application for financial environments), development of IT interventions and the development of integrated software and process solutions. He has studied towards his MCSD (VB, VBA and SQL) and MCT.

While doing articles and solutions development, Graeme became interested in understanding the so-called "generation gap" - why young people found it so easy to enter the "new economy" and handle technology, while experienced adults could not - and why adults were sceptical, cynical and even hostile. In order to gain some theoretical insights, Graeme turned to the academic study of young people and human interactions. He completed a Bachelor of Theology (Arts) degree (cum laude from University of Zululand ), a Licentiate (Honours) (Youth) (cum laude from BTC Southern Africa), and a Masters in Youth Work (cum laude MDiac, from UNISA). Graeme founded The EDGE Consulting in 1998 - a consultancy based on his leading edge research into multi-generational interaction. He is currently completing his PhD in Business Administration (DBA), with majors in leadership, future studies and international strategy consulting.

He works in a wide range of industries as a consultant, presenter and futurist. He does this with three partners, working in a "frameworking" consultancy.

Graeme is the co-author of the best-selling book, "Mind Over Money". He is a prolific writer of articles, and has been published in many magazines and journals. He recently won the award for "Best First Time Presenter" at the SA Market Research Association (SAMRA) annual convention, for his paper on "Generational Marketing and Advertising Literacy".

Graeme has a particular passion for the next generations. He is a recognised, international expert on 'Generation X' and 'Generation Y', and multi-generational interaction. He consults to a wide range of organizations, helping them to learn from Gen X & Y, understand, retain and get the most out of Gen X & Y employees, plan for leadership succession, and market to their Gen X & Y customers. He also helps Gen Xers & Yers maximize their impact on the world.

Graeme is on the Executives of the International Association for the Study of Youth Ministry (IASYM) and the South African Centre for Youth and Family Ministry. He is a member of MENSA, an associate member of the South African Market Research Association (SAMRA), and a member of the South African Youth Workers Association (SAYWA) and the Society for Practical Theology in South Africa .

Graeme has been married to Jane since 1991, and has two daughters, Amy and Hannah. They live in St Andrews, Johannesburg .
